The new bishop of Tagbilaran brings joyful news to the Diocese of Tagbilaran and the Catholic faithful in Bohol. The Holy Father appointed Reverend Gerardo Fortich Saco Jr. as bishop of the same diocese. Before this, he served as diocesan administrator.
Born on October 16, 1965 in Tagbilaran, Fr. Saco studied philosophy at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Tagbilaran City. He also studied theology at the San Carlos Seminary of Cebu City. He was ordained a priest on April 26, 1993. Since then, he has faithfully served the Diocese of Tagbilaran.
Years of Service in the Diocese
Before becoming the new bishop of Tagbilaran, Fr. Saco held many pastoral assignments. First, he served as parish vicar at Saint Vincent Ferrer in Calape. Later, he became parish priest at Santa Monica in Albuquerque. He also served as a missionary in Libya. In addition, he worked as a visiting priest at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Centerport, New York.
After that, he returned to Bohol and continued his ministry. He served as parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes in Tagbilaran City. He also served at Our Lady of the Assumption in Dauis and Holy Cross in Maribojoc. Over the years, he took on wider leadership roles. These included episcopal vicar for the laity, vicar forane, vicar general, and diocesan administrator.
A New Chapter for the Diocese of Tagbilaran
Now, the appointment of the new bishop of Tagbilaran marks an important moment for the local Church. His long years of service show dedication to God and His people. More importantly, his pastoral experience prepared him for this new mission.
